Hamilton: I didn't perform well enough myself.
In qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix, Charles Leclair and Lewis Hamilton clocked fourth and eighth time respectively. The Ferrari drivers evaluated the last session differently: if Monegasque is happy with the car, then the seven-time world champion admitted that he could have performed better.
Charles Leclair (4th): "I had a really good lap. I gave it my all and couldn't have done anything better.
I was quite happy yesterday because we did a good job and got more speed from the car. But we were a little short in qualifying, especially in the final. I had a lot of oversteer, but despite that, I'm happy with my lap.
We need to keep working. The gap between McLaren and Red Bull, which are our targets, is still large.
Overall, the session turned out to be positive, as I feel much more comfortable driving. Yesterday we found a solution that suits my driving style, and that makes me much more confident in the car. This is a positive change with an eye towards further races of the season. It will take more time to solve other problems."
Lewis Hamilton (8th): "I didn't perform well enough myself. Eighth place is not the best result. I had to adjust the car to a higher ground clearance than I would have liked, but everything is equal.
Charles did a great job. He and I chose different settings – I had a serious understeer, which I couldn't do anything about.
I like to race in the rain, so after qualifying like this, I hope tomorrow's race will be rainy."
