Lando Norris: The goal for tomorrow is to try to win the race

Up until the qualifying final in Suzuka, the McLaren drivers were considered the undisputed favorites, but at the crucial moment they lost to Max Verstappen, who scored his fourth consecutive pole position on the Japanese track.

However, Lando Norris lost to him quite a bit, only 0.012 seconds, and didn't seem too upset.

Lando Norris (2nd): "Congratulations to Max, he did a good job, so hats off to him! When the circle is so good, you have to admit it. I have the impression that I got everything out of the car. The difference in our results is minimal, but Max drove a great lap.

My teammate and I are starting from second and third positions, which is good, but still we weren't fast enough to get pole position. In addition, I made a couple of small mistakes, for example, in turn 7, and this suggests that you can easily lose time on this track.

But my last attempt was very good. If I could get back on the track now, I probably wouldn't be able to drive as fast. a circle. I think we did our best, but it just wasn't enough anyway.

The goal for tomorrow is to try to win the race, although no one knows what the weather will be like on Sunday. Maybe we'll have another rain race like in Australia. But it will be very interesting. We want to overtake Max, and although he won't give in to us without a fight, I already have experience fighting him, so I'm looking forward to tomorrow's Grand Prix."

Oscar Piastri (3rd): "Everything was going well, especially at the beginning of the final session, but I didn't manage to drive the last lap the way I wanted to. But the results are incredibly tight, and I think we'll fight as the race progresses.

I think we can challenge Max, because we have a great car that can run at a good pace. Although the rivals from other teams are not as far behind as it might seem from the outside, because they can also use special engine operating modes and all that.

Max did an excellent job at the end of qualifying and won pole, but we still remain among the contenders for victory. And I don't mind if it rains tomorrow. If not, that's fine with me too. I will be glad of any weather."
