Colapinto: Alonso's form is better than any of us.
Fernando Alonso is unhappy with the poor start to the season, believing that the Aston Martin car does not allow him to compete for positions in the top ten, and the two-time world champion has no points yet. But for young racers, he still remains an example of both athletic longevity and the right attitude.
"Fernando is a great driver, he performs at the same level as 25-year–old boys," said Franco Colapinto, reserve driver of Alpine F1. "He is improving his skills from year to year, and we can see that his physical condition is better than any of us. At 43, he is still at an incredibly high level. Personally, it's hard for me to imagine that in the future I will be able to be like him.
You need to really love Formula 1 to compete in the World Championship for so many years, because it requires a lot of effort, and the stress on the body is very high here. After all, the season consists of 24 races, and for these 24 weekends you have to travel all over the world, and this is also a huge psychological burden.
Even after so many years of his career, Fernando is at such a high level that it deserves every admiration. I used to drive for his team in Formula 4 – that's how it all started for me, and that's when I first met him. After that, he opened all the doors for me."
Last Sunday, Colapinto conducted tests in Monza behind the wheel of the Alpine 2023 car, and all this happened against the background of persistent rumors that he could soon replace Jack Duane in the Renault factory team.
