The Deputy President of the FIA has resigned.
The confrontation in the FIA between President Mohammed bin Sulayem and other key figures of the federation is reaching a new level. Ben Sulayem's deputy for sports, Robert Reed, resigned on Thursday.
In a statement, Reed explained that he could no longer work for the federation because the leadership, i.e. ben Sulayem, was departing from the basic principles of the FIA.
"When I took up this position, I wanted to serve the members of the FIA, not the authorities,– Robert Reed said in a statement. – Over time, I have witnessed the steady erosion of the principles that we promised to uphold. Decisions are made behind closed doors, bypassing those structures and people whose interests the FIA exists to represent.
My resignation is not about people, but about principles. Motorsport deserves responsible, transparent and member-oriented leadership from the FIA. I can no longer conscientiously remain part of a system that does not reflect these values."
At the end of February, Robert Reid and the representative of the British Federation, David Richards, were not allowed to attend a meeting of the World Motorsport Council due to a dispute with the president of the federation, Mohammed Bin Sulayem.
