Gabriel Bortoleto spoke about the "malfunction of the brain"
Gabriel Bortoleto told the press in Bahrain on Thursday that he almost had an accident in the third practice session of the Japanese Grand Prix due to a "brain malfunction."
The Sauber racer touched the grass with his right wheels before turning 130R and almost lost control of the car. He radioed the team about the tire problem, but then admitted his mistake.
Gabriel Bortoleto: "It was just a brain malfunction. I didn't have to switch the steering wheel position or anything, because that happens when you try to use the entire width of the track before entering a turn.
In that episode, I took a harder right turn than usual, and my rear wheel hit the grass, but from the cockpit it didn't look as dramatic as in the replay.
We are always on the verge of driving through turns, so this is a completely normal situation. We've seen how Fernando Alonso and other drivers have done it in the past."
