Formula 1 is ready to abandon the Imola track
Italy is one of only two countries in the Formula 1 calendar hosting more than one Grand Prix per year. In May, Imola hosts the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, and Monza hosts the Italian Grand Prix in September. The contract with Imola expires in 2025, and Formula 1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali has hinted that it will not be renewed.
Stefano Domenicali: "Italy has always been and will remain an important part of Formula 1 in the future. But it is becoming more and more difficult to hold two Grands Prix in the same country, as the interest in Formula 1 is growing, and in the coming months we will have to deal with this. It's hard to imagine that the situation where Imola and Monza are on the calendar together will last for a long time.
From a personal point of view, it will be difficult for me to make a decision, but I have to fulfill my international role, which is to respond to requests from all over the world from countries that can help the growth of Formula 1. This is an assessment that I will soon have to accept as the final choice."
