Confidence remains strong despite Red Bull ordeal - Lawson

Confidence remains strong despite Red Bull ordeal - Lawson

"I’m pleased with my progress over the last two races."

Liam Lawson states that his confidence remains intact following his time with Red Bull. The team chose not to retain Yuki Tsunoda late last year and opted for Lawson for the 2025 season. However, Lawson struggled significantly while racing alongside Max Verstappen, leading to his replacement by Tsunoda after only two races.

Despite the ongoing gap to Verstappen, the team is satisfied with Tsunoda's performance, and Dr. Helmut Marko has confirmed that the Japanese driver will continue driving for the entire season.

"I’m pleased with how I've developed in the last two races," Tsunoda remarked in Saudi Arabia. "It has gone a bit better than I expected, probably.

"My confidence is there. It's not perfect, but it's definitely there."

It is widely recognized that the Racing Bulls car, which is Lawson’s new ride, is more manageable, easier to set up, and helps with tire management, aiding in restoring Lawson's confidence after his time with Red Bull Racing.

Nonetheless, the 23-year-old asserts that his confidence was not even shaken. "When it comes to confidence, nothing has changed since the beginning of the year," Lawson remarked. "I wasn’t with Red Bull Racing long enough to reflect on my performance over two races and feel that I've forgotten how to drive because of the car issues.

"Nothing like that," he continued. "It was a tough two weekends at Red Bull, and several factors played into that. But my confidence hasn’t wavered."
