Sainz uncovers a critical issue with the Williams car.
"We have a minor balance issue that we are working to resolve."
Carlos Sainz believes he will have to contend with a fundamental issue in Williams' 2025 car for the entire season. The highly regarded Spaniard has faced difficulties keeping pace with his teammate since his transfer from Ferrari, a concern that Alex Albon has also recognized.
"We don’t usually discuss the weaknesses in our competitors' cars, but generally speaking, yes - it's very specific to corners and the wind," Albon stated. However, Albon also feels that Sainz is having a tough time adjusting to the Williams. "It’s evident that he has a driving style he prefers to use with the car, and honestly, there’s nothing unfamiliar about what I’m experiencing. I think what’s really promising is his ideas and a new approach."
Sainz has been somewhat reserved in revealing what he perceives is hindering the Williams. "We have a minor balance issue that we are attempting to address with the tools available to us, as I believe there’s little chance with developments," he mentioned. "We are focusing all our efforts on 2026."
Nonetheless, Sainz insists he will not abandon his attempts to fix the issue despite the lack of forthcoming car updates. "If we can improve it, the car has significant potential, and the team does as well," he noted. "If we can pinpoint which aspect of the car is causing this, I’m fully confident we can make substantial strides forward."
"I want to ensure that, even if we aren't going to make many developments to the car, we continue to operate as if we would, to understand the car’s strengths and weaknesses. Even though we don’t allocate much time in the wind tunnel and CFD, we do whatever we can to comprehend the source of the issues."
