Oscar Piastri: I try to stay calm at all times.
Oscar Piastri has scored two wins this year after starting from pole position and this weekend he can become the leader of the World Championship if he gets ahead of his team-mate who is experiencing psychological problems.
Against the background of talk about the "papaya rules" and equal conditions, if he continues to overtake Norris, he can become the number one McLaren. Oscar believes that it is important to perform well in qualifying and stay calm in any situation.
Oscar Piastri: "Qualifying is incredibly important, regardless of team principles and pit stop preferences. When there are two riders in the same team with a similar pace, the one in front has a clear advantage, so it's important to qualify well. However, we have seen more than once that this does not determine everything, there are other areas in which you can win back if you do your job well.
I worked a lot during the winter, and this work bore fruit. I feel much more confident in qualifying now.
The situation in the team has changed compared to last year. In 2024, especially at the beginning of the season, we tried to put all the new products on the car as soon as possible. We had to catch up with Red Bull, especially in the Constructors' Championship.
We are in a completely different position now. We have a lead in the Constructors' Championship and we are fighting in the drivers' championship. It is expected that we will have equal opportunities and the same cars to fight for the championship. As long as it is possible to maintain such equality, we must do so.
Everyone has their own approach. It's very important for me to stay calm. It helps me to make the most of myself. That's how I act best. And so far it has worked.
I've experienced emotions in a car a couple of times in my career. If these are negative emotions, they have a negative impact. So I try to stay calm and stay relaxed. Most often, this happens by itself, but conscious efforts in this direction are also needed. But there are also positive emotions. I was very excited in China. So there are emotions."
