Vettel indicates that a return to the cockpit is improbable.
"I have found a rhythm outside of Formula 1."
Sebastian Vettel has suggested that a return to racing is rather improbable. The retired four-time world champion was recently mentioned by Dr. Helmut Marko as his preferred successor as the influential advisor for Red Bull in Formula 1.
"I believe Sebastian has discovered himself and now knows what he intends to pursue in the future - and that's mainly motorsport," Marko, 81, remarked. The Austrian implied that his long tenure with Red Bull in Formula 1 may soon come to a close. "No decision has been made yet, but it’s also quite clear," Marko stated. "Eventually, it won’t be feasible anymore - also due to age. The travel demands are also considerable."
Vettel did not dismiss the idea of taking over from Marko, but he mentioned to Sky Deutschland: "We’re still figuring out what that could entail. I don’t want to impose myself." The 37-year-old German departed from Aston Martin and F1 at the end of 2022 and has since occasionally toyed with the notion of returning to racing. However, he now suggests that it's unlikely.
"I have established a rhythm outside of Formula 1," Vettel noted. "And I have managed to maintain harmony in the family. I have adapted to my new life." Although he attends a few F1-related events, the 53-time Grand Prix winner spends nearly all of his time at home with his wife and three young children.
"I’ve learned a lot about myself during this time," he stated. "I’m very content, and I don’t feel bored." Regarding the chance of racing again, Vettel smiled, saying: "My children have told me that I’m not allowed to race anymore because they care about me so much. That is wonderful to hear."
