Media reports indicate that Colapinto will be taking Doohan's place at Imola.
"He gathered racing incidents."
A rising number of highly reputable international media outlets are asserting that Jack Doohan has likely completed his last Formula 1 race for the time being. The list of sources suggesting that the Australian rookie will be replaced by Franco Colapinto at Imola for the next race is quite notable. These publications include Nextgen-Auto and L’Equipe (France), Bild and RTL (Germany), the BBC (UK), Ole (Argentina), De Telegraaf (The Netherlands), and others.
Prior to the Miami GP, the situation intensified when the president of Colapinto’s main sponsor YPF—the Argentine state-owned oil company—accidentally disclosed in a moment caught on a live microphone that the 21-year-old would be competing "in Imola."
Before the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday, Alpine’s influential advisor Flavio Briatore referred to Colapinto, saying: "He’s our reserve driver. Reserve, reserve, reserve." Simultaneously, there were also rumors suggesting that Briatore was negotiating to significantly increase the funding coming into Alpine from Colapinto’s various sponsors.
"The unfortunate Doohan, under pressure, never managed to become indispensable," stated L’Equipe correspondent Frederic Ferret. "He accumulated racing incidents, similar to the one on Sunday, which empowered this new approach to managing F1 drivers, treating them like disposable handkerchiefs, without ever allowing them time to adjust."
