Official announcement: Alpine F1 has replaced Doohan with Colapinto for the next five races.
He will compete alongside Pierre Gasly until Silverstone.
As part of an ongoing evaluation of its driver roster, the Alpine F1 team has decided to rotate one of its race seats for the next five rounds of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship. BWT Alpine Formula One Team has announced that Franco Colapinto will join Pierre Gasly starting from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, with another evaluation planned before the British Grand Prix in July. Jack Doohan will continue to be a crucial member of the team and will serve as the primary Reserve Driver during this timeframe.
Franco, who has been one of the team's Test & Reserve Drivers, will race with the #43 on the A525 and partner Pierre for the first time in Imola. This will lead into three consecutive races in Europe, including the Monaco Grand Prix and the Spanish Grand Prix, followed by two races in June for the Canadian Grand Prix and the Austrian Grand Prix.
Flavio Briatore, Executive Advisor, stated: “After reviewing the initial races of the season, we have decided to have Franco join Pierre in the car for the next five races. With the field being so closely matched this year and with a significantly improved car, we recognize the need to rotate our lineup. The 2026 season will be crucial for the team, and it’s essential to have a thorough and fair assessment of our drivers this season to maximize our chances next year. We also continue to support Jack, who has performed professionally as a race driver this season. The upcoming five races will allow us to try something different, and after that period, we will evaluate our options.”
Franco Colapinto remarked: “First of all, I want to express my gratitude to the team for the chance to race competitively over the next five races. I will work diligently with the team to prepare for the upcoming race in Imola and the intensive triple-header ahead. I have remained sharp and am as ready as possible through the team's testing program and simulator sessions at Enstone. I will strive to get up to speed quickly and give my best to achieve the best results alongside Pierre.”
Jack Doohan commented: “I am extremely proud to have realized my lifelong dream of being a professional Formula One driver, and I will always be thankful to the team for helping me achieve this. Naturally, this new chapter is challenging for me, as every professional driver wants to compete. However, I appreciate the team’s trust and commitment. We have long-term goals as a team, and I will continue to put forth my best efforts in any way I can to help accomplish those. For now, I will keep my focus, work diligently, watch the next five races with interest, and pursue my own personal goals.”
