Alonso is not 'weary' of Aston Martin's difficulties.

"Hopefully, we'll make progress for Imola."

Fernando Alonso asserts that he is not "tired" of competing in uncompetitive Formula 1 cars. Since becoming the youngest back-to-back world champion in F1 history in 2006, the Spaniard has faced challenges in achieving consistent success and is currently driving what he acknowledges may be the slowest or second-slowest car on the grid. The 43-year-old, whose contract extends only until the end of next year when he will race Adrian Newey's first Aston Martin, has yet to score a single point in 2025.

"I hope we can make a step forward for Imola, which is essential now," Alonso told DAZN. "When will there be improvements? I’m not sure," he added. "If new parts are coming, they will also be available to other teams. We can’t discuss Aston Martin’s improvements as if the others are just sitting idle. Everyone will be bringing aerodynamic updates to Imola, so we’ll aim to make ours the most significant. But it is what it is," Alonso remarked.

The Spanish broadcaster then inquired whether he was "tired" of racing with F1 machinery that does not match his undeniable talent and record. "No, I’m not tired," Alonso affirmed. "If I were tired, I wouldn’t have made it to Q3 (on Friday)."

The reporter reformulated the question to ask if the series of uncompetitive races this season had any effect on him. "I don't get tired," he reiterated, "because at the start of the year, I already know there are 24 races where scoring points isn’t the norm and making it out of Q1 isn’t typical either.

So when I finish P11 in Japan and come to the press saying it was one of my best races, it’s genuinely special, but it gets misinterpreted by you guys, and the message becomes, 'How is 11th place a super special race?' The truth is that I believe an 11th or a Q3 finish is a remarkable achievement. Setting these small goals for myself each weekend to achieve more than what’s expected keeps me quite motivated."
