Oliver Oakes' brother arrested by British police

The racing press continues to build versions, trying to explain what was the reason for Oliver Oakes' resignation from the post of head of the Alpine F1 team. Officially, it is only known that it is related to personal reasons.

At the same time, the London newspaper The Telegraph reported on Wednesday that his younger brother William was arrested by British police a few days ago and is in custody – the arrest took place last Thursday in Silverstone, and he had "a large amount of cash with him."

Silverstone is home to the Hitech Grand Prix team, and both brothers, William and Oliver, are listed as directors of Hitech Global Holdings, which manages the teams involved in almost all leading youth series.

The Telegraph quoted a London police spokesman as saying: "On Friday, May 2, William Oakes was charged with transferring property acquired by criminal means. On Thursday, May 1, he was arrested near Silverstone Park, and he had a large amount of cash with him. On Saturday, May 3, he appeared before the Northamptonshire County Magistrates Court, after which he was remanded in custody."

There are no other details related to the detention of William Oakes. At the same time, the press emphasizes that there is no direct connection between this event and the resignation of Oliver Oakes, although they occurred several days apart.

In particular, the American edition of The Athletic, citing its informed sources, writes that "Oakes' unexpected resignation is related to his personal situation, which is also influenced by family circumstances."

Alpine F1 declined to comment on the matter.
