Preparations for reconstruction have begun in Albert Park
Before the Australian Grand Prix in March, its organizers shared with the press plans for the reconstruction of the track's box complex in Albert Park, and now this project is presented in more detail, the local edition of Speedcafe reports.
In the spring of 2026, after the Formula 1 race at the Melbourne circuit will be held for the 29th time, demolition work will begin on the building where the garages are located, but preparations for this have already begun.
Experts have begun to inspect the existing building, one of the oldest and most cramped pit buildings among all the tracks hosting the World Cup stages. A mandatory archaeological and environmental assessment of the adjacent Albert Park area is also being carried out, as the reconstruction project involves a significant expansion of the racetrack infrastructure.
The new complex should be ready for the Australian Grand Prix in 2028, and in 2027 the building, which was only partially built, will be temporarily used.
The journalists who attended today's presentation in Melbourne learned that the new modern complex, which includes boxes, a race control center, guest areas and a press center, will be complemented by seven indoor sports fields and other facilities, including catering facilities.
"Fans come to the Formula 1 race from all over the world and fill local hotels, restaurants, pubs, contributing to business development," said Steve Dimopoulos, Minister of Tourism, Sports and Mass Events of Victoria. – The local community will only benefit from a large–scale renovation of the autodrome infrastructure - there will be more opportunities for sports, the number of sports grounds will increase, and the park will become more convenient for this."
Travis Auld, chief executive of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, added: "In addition to the pivotal role of hosting world-class events, a new chapter will begin in the history of Albert Park, making it an asset to the local community who will enjoy using it between races."
