Report: F1 may eliminate the Canadian GP after 2029.

      "We have expressed our plans."

A concerning prospect looms over the future of Canada’s Formula 1 race. Due to the missed editions of the event in Montreal during the Covid period, the contract with F1 was prolonged beyond its intended expiration in 2029, extending it to 2031. However, Le Journal de Montreal has uncovered that, according to public documents and gathered information, F1 has the option to terminate the contract in 2029 based on the terms originally agreed upon. The report indicates that F1's owner, Liberty Media, may consider dropping Montreal largely due to the unsatisfactory 2024 Canadian GP and the fact that the annual fee of $21 million is "one of the lowest" on the bustling 24-race schedule. Last year's grand prix was described as a "disaster" by Le Journal de Montreal, with attendees raising concerns regarding access and viewing issues mainly attributed to decisions made by the local government. An unnamed government source stated this week that race organizers are already seeking discussions with Formula 1 regarding a potential long-term contract extension. "We’re observing extensions of agreements in other locations," the source noted, "so we have made our intentions known. Discussions are friendly, but there is no indication that it isn’t a possibility." Nevertheless, it is understood that Liberty Media does not plan to engage in serious negotiations until following this year's Canadian GP in a month. "A significant amount of work is underway concerning mobility, access, and paddocks," an anonymous source close to the race organizers remarked. "We want to avoid a repeat of last year's issues. "Our collective goal is for the grand prix to succeed and for the event to remain here," the source added.
