James Voules is confident in Colapinto's progress
Last year, Williams loaned Franco Colapinto to Alpine on the condition that the Argentine would race. The condition has been fulfilled, Franco will drive the main car this weekend, but the decision coincided with the departure of Oliver Oakes from the post of team leader. Williams boss James Vaulz has no doubt that Colapinto will succeed in this difficult situation.
James Voules: "Yes, Alpine is restless right now, but I have no doubt that they will fully support their riders, Pierre and Franco.
Learning is invaluable, in this team or in another. This includes time on the track behind the wheel of the main car, and experience working in a team experiencing a difficult situation. All this will make Franco stronger. I think this is the right place for him at this stage.
We were happy to come to an agreement with Alpine, I think this is the best chance for him to be driving in the 25th and, hopefully, in the 26th. I am proud that he was a part of our academy and that we are responsible for him starting now. I know he's very fast, and I have no doubt he'll do a great job."
