Christian Horner: We have achieved a lot in these 400 races.
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix is the 400th anniversary race of Red Bull Racing, and, of course, the team held a small celebration in Imola's paddock.
"We are holding our 400th race here - it's amazing how fast they flew! Christian Horner, team principal, said cheerfully on Sky Sports, "This is a special event, we have achieved a lot over these 400 races, but we hope to achieve even more over the next 400.
If we talk about the Imola circuit, it is quite difficult, but the drivers like to drive here. But this generation of cars is very big, and they don't like bouncing on curbs. It is clearly visible that the riders have to be careful when attacking the curbs, because the aerodynamics of the cars react negatively to this.
However, there are curbs on other tracks too – it's just that they are very specific in Imola. And we have already seen that some riders had difficulties exiting corners precisely because of how the behavior of the cars changes on the curbs.
Already during the first training session, the condition of the track surface improved rapidly, but our riders were unable to complete normal laps on the second set of tires without interference. Pirelli brought softer tires to this stage, so most teams preferred to use two sets of Soft tires in order to save the Medium tires for the race, and maybe even for qualifying. I foresee that it will be interesting."
Commenting on Max Verstappen's fascination with GT racing, Horner said: "He really enjoys it, and it's very difficult to stop him from doing it. Of course, he should focus on Formula 1, but I think it's great that he enjoys different types of racing. In addition, Red Bull has always given its drivers more freedom than other teams.
He can get behind the wheel of a car of a different class and immediately show excellent speed. Max sent us a video taken by an on-board camera mounted on a car in which he drove a lap around the Nurburgring – it's insanely cool! It immediately becomes clear why he enjoys driving GT3 cars so much."
