Both Ferrari drivers missed the finals for the first time this season.
For the home Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna, the Ferrari team has prepared technical innovations that did not meet expectations. At Imola, for the first time this season, Charles Leclair and Lewis Hamilton did not reach the qualifying final together. Both Scuderia drivers are disappointed with this result and are preparing for a difficult race.
Charles Leclair (11th): "There is always an opportunity to do a better lap, but ... at the moment the car just doesn't have enough speed. The SF-25 doesn't have the potential we hoped for, so we have to do better.
At some point, we thought about the possibility of trying it on Medium, but we never seriously discussed this option. No one has done that except Aston Martin [and George Russell], so congratulations. Their decision allowed us to reach the final. But in any case, they showed good lap times and were fast on the C6 compound.
It's very hard to accept this result, because I couldn't fight the way I wanted to. I don't expect miracles –we have the car that we have, and I'm trying to get the most out of it."
Lewis Hamilton (12th): "Difficult qualifying. I feel very devastated that we couldn't make it to the finals. We made some good steps forward this weekend and the car feels better overall.
The brakes worked better today, the balance was good, and the first attempt in the second session turned out to be quite decent. But when we put new tires on, for some reason they did not provide more grip and did not allow us to go faster, although others did it.
We need to figure out the reasons, because such a result is devastating, considering how hard the whole team is working. This is my first race in Italy with an Italian team, and I'm not making it to the finals with Ferrari. The qualification left mixed impressions.
There are a lot of "ifs" waiting for us in the race. Overtaking is difficult on this track, so it will be difficult to win back, but we will do our best. It will be difficult to get into the top ten and break higher, as there are many fast cars ahead."
