Voules: It's very difficult to find an approach to soft rubber
Following the results of the third training session in Imola, Carlos Sainz showed the 6th time, Alex Albon, his partner – the 9th. James Vaulz, Williams team principal, told Sky Sports that he was pleased with the way the FW47 car was working, but it was not easy to find the best approach to the soft tires of the new C6 line-up.
James Voules: "Our car has been working very well since the beginning of the weekend, and that's the most important thing. But it's very difficult to find the right approach to soft tires, and we did our best lap yesterday on Medium tires. But today, many cars with Soft tires ended up off the track, and we also had difficulties.
But it is very good that this weekend we have the opportunity to work with the tires of the C6 train, because we will have to deal with it in Monaco. However, it must be admitted that it was difficult to achieve a high pace on these tires.
The problem is that since these are very soft tires, at such an asphalt temperature exceeding 45 degrees, by the part of the circle where the ascent towards the chicane begins, the rubber already has time to overheat. And after the chicane Variante Alta, we still have to overcome the last two turns, which also have to be completed at the limit, and the difficulty is not to exceed this limit.
I am confident in our car and I know that we are not yet fully exploiting its potential. But we have two world-class drivers, and a very cohesive, efficient and well-coordinated team, and this is the most important thing."
