Piastri: The session went great, but it was very difficult.
Oscar Piastri has won qualifying at the Imola classic circuit, marking the third pole for an Australian McLaren driver in the 2025 season. Lando Norris showed the 4th result, losing about three tenths to his partner.
Oscar Piastri (1st): "The session went great, but it was very difficult due to delays related to red flags and also due to tires. There were big difficulties with the tires today. After yesterday's training, everyone thought that the new C6 tires weren't working so badly, but today these tires were behaving really mysteriously.
The team coped with the task perfectly, the car settings were correct. We tried different approaches this weekend and achieved an optimal balance before qualifying.
My final attempt was going well, but before the last corner I caught up with four cars, which did not help, but still the result was enough for pole position. All in all, I'm very happy with my work and I'm already looking forward to tomorrow's race.
I didn't really like that I was the first to hit the track, because whoever goes first won't be able to use the slipstream, but at least I don't have to drive in the disturbed air. I guess that helped me a bit too.
I think we had a high enough pace to win pole, and we successfully implemented our plan."
Lando Norris (4th): "I guess I just wasn't fast enough. This year, I have never managed to conduct the final qualifying session the right way, with the right confidence, and today it happened again.
It's the same thing every weekend. In general, in tomorrow's race we need to try to win back positions and make our way forward. Although it will not be easy, because it is difficult to overtake on this track, but the situation is as it is.
The same old story repeats itself: I'm not doing well enough in the qualifiers, but at least I have to try to enjoy tomorrow's race."
