Frederic Wasser: The problem is the same as in Miami
The head of the Ferrari team, Frederic Wasser, is unhappy with the repetition of an unsuccessful scenario – when everyone switched to a fresh Soft kit in qualifying, the rivals were able to add, but his drivers did not.
Frederick Wasser: "It's almost the same thing that happened in Miami two weeks ago. We couldn't improve the time with the new set of tires, and we don't know the reason. The pace was decent. We showed fifth and sixth time on rolled-up tires, but we didn't improve with the new set, and the opponents were able to win back three or four tenths. The result is in the protocol."
During the interview, Fred Wasser heard Charles Leclair say that the problem was the lack of capability of the SF–25, but he only partially agreed with this.
Frederick Wasser: "I think today the problem is 50-50 between performance and potential. If we had done everything right, we could have been fourth or fifth. The performance wasn't very good, we need to make the car work to its potential, and today we couldn't hold our position with the new tires. But the potential is also not good enough, because the goal is not to fight for fifth or sixth place. So the reason is a combination of factors – we lack both the execution and the potential of the car.
Did the novelties work? When we talk about updates, we're talking about tenths or hundredths of a second, not half a second. On the other hand, we lose just half a second due to the tires. This is the area we need to focus on.
Nothing has been decided yet. We showed a good race pace on Friday, but it's very difficult to overtake here. We need to be on our guard and maybe take a chance with the strategy in the race."
