George Russell: We lost all the chances yesterday

The Mercedes drivers were unable to earn anything in Monaco, partly because the rivals used a special tactic on a narrow urban track: they deliberately drove quite slowly and held back the peloton in order to prevent those riding behind from reaching the top ten.

George Russell (11th): "This is Monaco, and these are the rules of the game. My partner and I planned how we would act this morning, but we did not expect that Williams would use exactly the same tactics. By the way, Racing Bulls did the same thing, and it turned out that this was the only way to earn a decent amount of points in Monaco.

But we would have problems with any tactic. Actually, I don't really care about the result, because I wouldn't have been able to earn anything anyway. To be honest, I just wanted to enjoy driving on this track. We lost all our chances yesterday when we had technical problems during qualifying.

The irony is that even after getting a penalty in the pit lane, I finished in a higher position than I would have finished without this penalty, because I would have been stuck behind Alex Elbon, Yuki Tsunoda and Nico Hulkenberg. In general, I think that the system as a whole is not without drawbacks.

What do I suggest? I have a great idea! (laughs) Every rider should have a button in the car that turns on the sprinkler, and something pours onto the track. We should have a choice when to use this button – in qualifying or in the race – but only once per weekend!.. I think it would have added spice to the events on the track. It seems to me that this is the only way to change something ..."

Kimi Antonelli (18th): "To begin with, if you start in Monaco from such a distant position, then you should not expect any miracles. It is very difficult to win back positions here, although at first it seemed that our tactics might work.

But the rivals also decided to play the same game, so I found myself in a position where I just had to help our team and try to do something so that at least one of the riders got a chance to compete for points.

It didn't work out, but we will try to win back in Barcelona.

The result upset me, but there's nothing to be surprised about, because in yesterday's qualifying I was only 15th.  At the beginning of the race, I tried to act aggressively to gain as many positions as possible. Before the tunnel, I attacked Bortoleto because I had the pace, and I took advantage of the situation. I managed to win back one position, and after that we found ourselves in a line of slow-moving cars, despite the fact that the teams in the middle of the peloton, such as Racing Bulls and Williams, conducted the race in their own way, and there was no opportunity to overtake.

Nevertheless, despite this result, the weekend in Monaco allowed me to gain a useful experience..."
