Mick Schumacher was at the Indy 500 for talks with Cadillac

In recent weeks, Mick Schumacher has appeared at two races held in the United States – the Miami Grand Prix and yesterday's Indy 500. At the same time, it is known that he is negotiating with the leadership of the new Cadillac F1 team, and both May visits should be considered in this context.

According to Racer, there are quite a lot of drivers on the list of contenders for two places in Cadillac, and most of them have either experience in Formula 1 or experience working as reserve drivers.: These are Sergio Perez, Valtteri Bottas, Guanyu Zhou, Felipe Drugovich and Frederic Vesti. The son of the seven–time world champion is also on this list, from 2021 to 2022. Mick has completed 43 races for Haas F1.

He then served as a backup driver for Mercedes and McLaren for two years, and now he competes for the Alpine factory team in endurance racing, and his crew has already achieved several podiums.

The day before the Indy 500, Schumacher Jr. was spotted at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where he confirmed that his main goal now is to return to Formula 1 as a prize driver.

Dan Tauriss, Cadillac F1 program manager, was both in Miami and last weekend at the Indy 500, as his company TWG Motorsport now owns the assets of Andretti Global.

Discussions between the management of the General Motors factory project and possible candidates for places in the 11th Formula 1 team are still preliminary, but Racer, citing its sources, reports that in the coming weeks these negotiations should reach a more serious level.

Cadillac F1 is also considering the candidacies of two American drivers – Colton Herta, who drives for Andretti in IndyCar, and Jack Crawford, who won the Formula 2 race in Monaco yesterday at the wheel of the DAMS team car and takes 5th place in the individual standings of the series.
