Verstappen is one penalty point away from disqualification
After reviewing Max Verstappen's actions in the fight against George Russell, the stewards not only punished the driver with a 10-second penalty, but also gave him three penalty points – now Max has 11 out of 12 allowed.
Two points of them will burn on June 29. If Verstappen gets at least one penalty point before then, he will be disqualified for one race.
The stewards explained the amount of the punishment in an official statement.
"It was clear from the radio conversations that the team had asked the driver of car #1 to 'return position' to car #63 for what they had previously considered a violation by car #1, which had left the track and gained an advantage (in fact, we later decided that we would not take any further action in connection with by this incident).
The driver of car #1 was clearly unhappy with his team's request to return the position. When approaching Turn five, car #1 slowed down significantly, thereby allowing car #63 to overtake itself.
However, after car #63 got ahead of car #1 at the entrance to Turn five, car #1 suddenly accelerated and collided with car #63. The collision was undoubtedly caused by the actions of car #1. That's why we imposed a ten-second penalty on her."
