Piastri: I wanted the weekend to go exactly like this!
Oscar Piastri won the Spanish Grand Prix for the fifth time in the 2025 season, and together with Lando Norris, he secured McLaren's third winning double.
Oscar Piastri (1st): "It was a bit surprising to see that Max Verstappen tried to implement the tactic of three pit stops, and he almost succeeded. However, the whole weekend turned out just fine for us.
The car was capable of a very good pace, and when necessary, we could accelerate. I am very proud of the way we worked at the Spanish Grand Prix, and it was a good way to win back after Monaco. In general, I have nothing to complain about!
We've been doing great all year, and I wanted this weekend to go exactly like that! In all the important moments, we acted the way we needed to – what more could we ask for? The team provided me with a great car again, so it was a real pleasure to race – and thank you to the fans for the wonderful support!
I did a good restart, although I'm not sure if my rear tires liked it, because even in 6th gear the drive wheels were slipping. The restart wasn't perfect, but it was good enough. We just need to get used to the grip level, which is typical for a small fuel load, and take this moment into account.
" Lando Norris (2nd): "Oscar had a great race, and I didn't have enough pace to catch up with him, but we did our best. It was a long race, and at the end a lot of things could have happened when the safety car pulled onto the track, but it was fun! And the best part is that we still have a winning double.
I'm happy with my race, the pace of the car was good, but it's hard to say if I had a real opportunity to compete for 1st place, and although I don't rule out that I missed some chances at the start, I don't think it cost me the victory. Oscar could drive very fast when he needed to, but I lost the most when I was driving behind him in a zone of disturbed air behind his car."
