Javier Bardem: The most important thing is that there is a soul in the F1 movie

Javier Bardem, a Hollywood star, a world–renowned Spanish actor, winner of various film awards, including an Oscar winner, played the head of the APXGP team named Ruben Cervantes in the new F1 film.

At the same time, in an interview with the official website of the championship, he honestly admits that he had not paid much attention to Formula 1 before. But when he was invited to this role, he decided to prepare properly, read the right books, watched documentaries, including the notorious Drive to Suv series on Netflix – and got into it.

He was really fascinated by the subject of the film, and he talks about it in some detail, but in order not to give away any secrets, we will limit ourselves to just some of his answers from this interview. For example, Javier says about his role:

"In the film, I play the role of the owner of the APXGP team, and we have everything at stake, and our last trump card is Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt. In the movie, he's been a good friend of mine since the days when we raced together.…

When I first read the script, I had the feeling that I had completely immersed myself in this world, because everything was presented very qualitatively, with great attention to all the nuances, which allowed me to begin to understand all aspects of Formula 1.

And I realized that technically, in terms of visual solutions, it would be a great picture.… In addition, it is handled by very high-level professionals. These two factors came together, and it became interesting for me to take part in such a project and help tell this story. I must say, we did a great job.

There's a lot of humor in the movie, too, and that's good. After all, when you participate in a movie like this, the adrenaline goes through the roof, you enjoy the process itself, so we had quite a lot of fun, and it's always great, don't you agree?

I think this will be the most authentic movie ever made about the world of Formula 1. There is no doubt about it. But the most important thing is that the film has a soul. In fact, this is a film about what true camaraderie is, what it means to sacrifice personal interests for the sake of a team, for the benefit of other people. That victory is a common asset, not just your personal success..."

Javier Bardem also spoke about his impression of meeting Toto Wolff, the head of the Mercedes team, who played an important role in preparing for the filming process, as we wrote at the time.

"Toto Wolff is full of inner energy, and the way he confidently and intently leads the team is a completely unique approach," the actor shared. "It was very interesting for me to communicate with him, listen to him, participate in a dialogue with him – just to understand how he lives and feels, because in the world of motorsport Everyone is always under tremendous pressure.…

I liked that all these people really passionately love their work, this is their life - these are the qualities I tried to give Ruben, my character..."
