"Never say never" regarding the pro cycling team - Bottas
"At the moment, I’m a bit too occupied."
Valtteri Bottas acknowledges that he is considering the possibility of establishing a professional cycling team. Even prior to losing his Sauber seat at the end of last year, the current Mercedes reserve driver was a dedicated cycling enthusiast, logging hundreds of kilometers each week in training worldwide. The 35-year-old shared with Spain’s Soy Motor that he is currently collaborating with a professional coach.
"I’m cycling more now," Bottas stated, expressing his aim to return to the grid next year with Cadillac. "This year, I want to see how much I can enhance my performance by engaging in more targeted training, as I have more time available."
He mentioned that he still attends every Formula 1 weekend, averaging 15 hours of cycling each week this year. The Finn disclosed that his current weight-to-power ratio stands at 4.8 watts per kilogram, while a professional cyclist would typically achieve 6 watts or more. Looking ahead, Bottas - whose net worth is estimated to be around $30 million - is not dismissing the idea of starting his own professional cycling team.
"Never say never," he remarked with a smile. "Currently, I’m a bit too busy, but in the future, it's one of my greatest passions. We’ll see. I can't deny it. It’s a sport I love to follow and partake in."
