Stella: The situation would have been different if Lando hadn't apologized.

After the Canadian Grand Prix, Andrea Stella agreed with the comments of Lando Norris, who took full responsibility for the collision with his team-mate, but said that the team would have to analyze the circumstances of the incident in detail.

We quoted those words, but it makes sense to add that the McLaren team principal promised that the drivers would have a serious and difficult conversation, including about priorities.

"As Lando himself admitted, he only misjudged the situation in that episode, although he understood the basic principles adopted by the team," Stella said.  However, he did not speak: "Let's talk it over." All this may affect his self-confidence, but now a lot depends on the team. We must show that we fully support him, and I want to emphasize this in every possible way.

We are going to have a difficult conversation, but there is no doubt that we will maintain our approach. Our drivers have exactly the same status, they are equal in terms of the approaches that we apply and the attitudes towards both drivers that McLaren practices. Although the situation would have been different if Lando hadn't taken full responsibility and apologized.

Lando himself must show his character and overcome these kinds of moments to ensure that he has learned all the necessary lessons. This episode should remain in the past, but he should learn only what will help him become stronger professionally, and everything else should be discarded.…

The season consists of 24 stages plus sprints, so there will be many more situations where similar episodes can occur. But I think that racers first of all learn from their own experience, and not as a result of our conversations with them, although such conversations have already taken place and, of course, were of a serious nature, and the racers learned what was discussed.

But, in my opinion, having survived a similar situation, the team will only become stronger. Since the two McLaren drivers are performing at about the same level, history may repeat itself. But at the same time, we must try to estimate the distance more accurately, because the collision in Canada occurred only because of an incorrect estimate of the distance between the cars.

There was nothing like the desire of one of the riders to demonstrate something to his partner. By the way, the situation was more dangerous in the last chicane, when they caught up with each other, but in that episode I noticed some wisdom."
