Pirelli and Ferrari have completed rain tire tests
On Friday, Pirelli completed two days of prototype testing of intermediate and rain tires for the 2026 season.
Charles Leclair replaced Guanyu Zhou at the wheel of the transitional version of the Ferrari SF-25 car today. The Monegasque drove a total of 110 laps. Charles showed his best lap on slicks (59.210 seconds) before the track was watered. On the intermediate tyres, the best time was 1:06.180 seconds.
"First of all, I want to thank Ferrari for their hospitality and technical support, as well as thank the drivers for their work," Mario Isola, head of Pirelli's racing division, summed up the results of the tests. – Two days of testing turned out to be very productive and allowed us to complete the development of intermediate and rain tires for the next season. Now we will carefully analyze all the collected data and make final decisions.
It is always difficult to create rain tires, because it is difficult to consistently reproduce the conditions on the track, and the temperature plays a role. This is especially true this year, as the modified machines cannot fully reproduce the loads and behaviors expected from 2026 machines, which will be built according to the new rules.
We have tried to make the most of the tests that have taken place and have obtained interesting results that next year will allow us to provide teams with tires that are improved over current tires, both in terms of efficiency and operating range."
