Piastri: Only one of us can become a champion

At the FIA press conference at the Red Bull Ring, Oscar Piastri had to mostly answer questions about the aftermath of the incident with his team-mate, which occurred shortly before the finish of the Canadian Grand Prix.

Oscar Piastri: "After the finish of the race, the analysis of the results went fine, although I spent half of that time in the stewards' room, which was also interesting in its own way. In general, everything is fine, and a completely honest conversation with my partner took place even before we returned to the team.

Lando took responsibility for the incident and apologized. So everything is going well, and I'm ready for new starts. Although it is clear that there was nothing good about what happened in Montreal, all the agreements remain the same: we have the right to compete freely with each other, because we both claim to win the championship. In general, we will continue to race, but we must ensure that there will be no new clashes between us.

Personally, I just want everything to be fair, so that I have the opportunity to fight for victories. First of all, I want to win the title, because only one of us can become a champion. But for McLaren to start talking about using tactics, there needs to be some serious changes in the situation, and currently we both have equal opportunities.

At the same time, I hope that the difficulties we faced at the previous stage will not repeat in Austria. You could say that in Canada they took us by surprise when it turned out that we weren't as strong as we had hoped. Hopefully, this was an isolated incident.

Actually, our race pace was at a good level, but we weren't let down by the best results we showed in qualifying. I think this weekend we will be able to perform quite confidently again, because together with the team we have already figured out what exactly prevented us in Canada. In any case, I am sure that we will both be in the top four in Austria.

For this stage, the team has prepared a number of technical innovations, mainly related to the front of the car – as usual, we hope that this will make the MCL39 a little faster."
