Mika Salo: Bottas will be the right choice for Cadillac

Cadillac F1, the new team that will make its World Championship debut in 2026, is in no hurry to sign contracts with drivers or, even if they have already decided on the squad, they are in no hurry to announce it. At the same time, there is more and more talk that Valtteri Bottas may become one of these riders, and the Finn himself recently hinted at this, albeit in a very allegorical way.

Mika Salo, a former Formula 1 racer, believes that the General Motors factory team will not lose if they rely on his compatriot with 13 seasons of experience, during which Valtteri held 246 Grands Prix and twice became vice-world champion.

"We are talking about a new team, and it really needs an experienced professional, – I shared the Fat with the Finnish edition of Iltalehti. – When Valtteri was driving for Mercedes, he accumulated a lot of good experience, and even now, when he watches what is happening on the tracks from the sidelines and does not race, he does not lose touch with Formula 1. I think that a driver like Bottas will be absolutely the right choice for Cadillac.

An experienced professional will share his knowledge with the team, and his skills will be very useful to them. Besides, he can tell you which other specialists should be invited,

but I don't want to speculate. After some time, we will find out who the contracts will be signed with. If Valtteri is racing in Formula 1 again next year, that's certainly a good thing. I believe he has a chance, because he is a very experienced and intelligent driver. It's generally a pleasure to deal with Finns, because they don't play political games, they are distinguished by their sincerity and directness, and the qualities that distinguish Bottas will perfectly suit the new team.

At the same time, I don't think Sergio Perez will become the second Cadillac driver. If I were the team, I would invite two experienced European riders who are more stable than him. And if I can't find a second such professional, then I would take a younger rider in the expectation that he will learn everything."
