Rene Arnoux is not surprised that clouds are gathering over Vasseur

Rene Arnoux is not surprised that clouds are gathering over Vasseur

Rene Arnoux competed in Formula 1 until 1989, and before that he spent more than ten years in the World Championship, including driving for Ferrari and finishing third with the Italian team in 1983. Thanks to his three wins and another one by his teammate Patrick Tamba, the Scuderia won the Constructors' Cup that year.

Arnoux does not lose his ties with the world of motorsport, cooperates with Renault, competes in historical car races and, of course, follows the events that take place in modern Formula 1. He is not surprised that towards the middle of the season, discussions began about the future of Frederic Wasser, the head of the Ferrari team, the only one of the top teams that has not won a single race in 2025.

"It always seemed to me that Ferrari was missing something," Arnoux said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.– However, we must remain objective in our assessments and admit that they are still unable to find the correct settings for the car. This is one of the most difficult aspects of working with current generation Formula 1 vehicles. If you can't find the optimal settings right away, then the whole weekend isn't going well.

The results shown by Scuderia under the leadership of Wasser speak for themselves. I would like to make a mistake and witness new Ferrari victories, but when we hear the team leader say that he is more or less satisfied with the 5th result, I cannot understand it. I hope Maranello is already actively developing a car for 2026, otherwise we have to admit that the team is in poor shape."

Ferrari is trying to improve the efficiency of the car and is preparing a set of technical innovations to be presented at the British Grand Prix. But Arnoux prefers to refrain from making predictions.: "Perhaps they will achieve something, but let's not forget that the rivals are also not standing still. It is unlikely that due to the modernization of the car it is possible to win back about two or four tenths, it is very difficult.

I hope the SF-25's problems are mainly related to the rear suspension, although I'm not convinced of that. In any case, we have to admit that Ferrari will not be able to win the championship."
