Ayo Komatsu: The day left mixed impressions

Only Oliver Berman advanced to the final qualifying session at Silverstone from the Haas F1 drivers, posting the eighth time, but he will be penalized for violating the red flag rule and will lose ten positions. As a result, he will start below his teammate: Esteban Ocon only reached the second session, finishing with 15th place.

Oliver Berman (8th): "It was a decent qualifying session, the car performed well as expected, and on Saturday, we were able to demonstrate the pace it can achieve, which is encouraging. The team did an excellent job today, so I’m even more disappointed.

However, since the car easily made it to the final session, I believe it should also be capable of good pace in the race."

Esteban Ocon (15th): "As always, the battle was very intense. Unfortunately, I had some difficulties on the exit lap from the pits, and my last attempt didn’t go as well as I would have liked.

We’ll see what the weather is like tomorrow, and if tire degradation is high, it should open up some opportunities to move forward. But it seems that our situation is worse than in the previous two races. Still, overall, the work is heading in the right direction, so we’ll give it our all tomorrow."

Team Principal Ayo Komatsu: "The day left mixed feelings. It’s great that we brought technical updates for this event, and the team performed excellently. The updates proved effective, and yesterday we also fine-tuned the settings, and the car showed the speed we expected.

Oliver was able to adapt to the car, utilize its full potential, and we all saw the result. We advanced to the final qualifying session, posting eighth place, ahead only of the top teams, which confirmed our collective efforts.

Of course, there’s a downside: during the third practice session, Oliver made a mistake and will lose ten places again at the start, which is not good. He’ll start 18th, and we need to address this, as such incidents shouldn’t happen again.

Esteban Ocon’s second attempt in the second part of qualifying was spoiled due to an unsuccessful out-lap, so he couldn’t fully unleash the car’s potential. He was less satisfied with how his VF-25 was working, and this still needs to be analyzed.

Tomorrow, we must give our all from 14th and 18th positions, as we intend to compete for points."
