Norris: I'm not going to worry about the third place!
The McLaren drivers will start at Silverstone from second and third positions, with Lando Norris trailing his teammate by just a few hundredths. Neither he nor Oscar Piastri were particularly disappointed, and both are looking forward to tomorrow's Grand Prix.
Oscar Piastri (2nd): "I'm happy with my first attempt – honestly, I managed to do a great lap. I was trying to see if I could go faster, but it didn’t work out.
The last lap wasn't very tidy, especially considering how close the results were all weekend. It was difficult to gauge how much the track conditions would improve, and there was still a slight chance to gain more time. But that's how it went.
The car has been working excellently all weekend, although there were a few moments that required some thinking, but we didn't go faster. The team performed very well, and tomorrow’s race will be very interesting.
Qualifying was challenging, but I didn't want to overreach or cross the line of what’s possible, so perhaps there were a couple of corners where I was a bit too cautious on the entry, trying to make up for it on the exit, but it didn’t work out.
Overall, I’m pleased to start from second. But again, the results are very close, and we’re all running at nearly the same level – Lando, Max, and the Ferrari drivers. As we saw, George Russell also showed a good result at the end.
I believe tomorrow we’ll all be roughly evenly matched in pace, but each car has its strengths: the Red Bull is very fast on the straights, and we still handle high-speed corners slightly better, so it’s going to be fun!"
Lando Norris (3rd): "The qualifying was pretty decent, and I certainly don’t plan to worry about third place, although here at Silverstone, I’d prefer to be on pole.
Max did a great job, and we weren’t fast enough, but tomorrow will be fun. Qualifying on this track always involves high speeds and is enjoyable, so overall, it’s been a good day.
Everything here depends on the details, the nuances, because we saw how close the results were in the first session, which is impressive on one hand and encouraging on the other. The difference in times was minimal, and of course, a few small mistakes were made. If you lose or gain a couple of hundredths in certain parts of the track, that will decide whether you get pole or not. But overall, it was a decent day.
It wasn't easy, especially with the wind today, and a few rain showers started, but it was still fun, so I’m pleased to have set third time. I think it will be a fun race tomorrow. I expect an interesting battle among the three of us, although it’s possible Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, and George Russell will also join in. Overall, I’m looking forward to the Grand Prix, which promises to be exciting."
