Acolapinto: I tried to find the limit of the possible...
On Saturday at Silverstone, Franco Colapinto had to once again apologize to the Alpine team for the mistake made during the first part of qualifying, which resulted in his car being damaged and himself finishing at the back of the grid.
Franco Colapinto (20th): "I just lost control of the car exiting the last corner – overall, it was a poor qualifying session. At the start of the first session, I was struggling with grip due to a lack of traction, and the track was a bit wet.
But I tried to push harder, to find the limit, and unfortunately, I made a mistake by hitting the curb in that corner. That ended my qualifying, and I apologize to the team: I couldn't avoid making contact with the barrier.
At first, I thought the car wasn't badly damaged because I managed to get back onto the track. But then vibrations started, and we decided to stop.
Together with the team, we will continue working, trying to make improvements, because I still have difficulties driving this car, but I hope everything will be different tomorrow. Pierre, my teammate, made it to the final part of qualifying, showing what could have been achieved – which means the car is capable of a decent pace."
Pierre Gasly (10th): "I'm very pleased with how qualifying went, especially considering how difficult the weekend had been so far. Neither yesterday nor even today during the third practice session did we manage to display a proper pace. But together with the team, we made a number of setup changes and simply tried to maximize the potential of the A525.
Thanks to everyone for the excellent work, and I’m very happy for the team because we made it to the final, even though we weren’t particularly optimistic before. Especially since we knew that Silverstone would be a tough circuit for us.
The weather conditions were also challenging—a gusty wind was blowing, making it hard to feel completely comfortable behind the wheel. But we managed to pass into the second session, and I had a really good lap that allowed us to reach the final.
Tomorrow, we’ll start from 8th position, which gives us a chance to score points. It won’t be easy in reality, but we’re prepared to fight. Moreover, rain is possible, so we need to be ready to seize any opportunity."
Flavio Briatore: "Considering the difficulties we faced throughout the weekend related to car handling and the feedback from the drivers, I want to commend the team and Pierre for their excellent work in reaching the final of qualifying.
Since Antonelli and Berman are penalized, we will start from 8th position, and the weather at Silverstone is unpredictable, so anything can happen in tomorrow’s race.
Today’s result shows that the team knows how to overcome challenges, but we must always push hard to achieve the maximum and fully unlock the car’s potential.
As for Franco, he understands that he made a mistake, so he needs to improve and race as well as possible tomorrow."
