Berman will lose 10 positions at the start.

At the end of Saturday's practice session, when the session was stopped with red flags after Bortoleto's crash, Oliver Berman hit the pit wall at the entrance to the garages – braking with cold tires, he was pulled to the side, and the Haas F1 driver collided with the barrier, breaking the nose cone.

The stewards, after reviewing the circumstances of the incident, found the driver guilty of violating the red flag rules, punishing him with a ten-place grid penalty and four penalty points on his super license. He now has eight points within the last 12 months.

The steward's report states: “The race was stopped with a red flag at 12:33:57. Car #87 slowed due to the red flag, but as it approached Turn 15, it accelerated significantly to race speed and entered the pit lane at 260 km/h. The driver lost control of the car and collided with the barrier.

Article 37.6(a) of the sporting regulation and Article 2.5.4.1(b) of Appendix H of the International Sporting Code require that upon the appearance of a red flag, “all drivers must immediately reduce speed and slowly return to the pits.” Driver #87 not only failed to slow down as he returned to the pit lane but accelerated, passing through this section even faster than on the previous lap, and worse still, lost control of the car and crashed into the barrier at high speed.

The driver stated that he misjudged the fact that his brakes were not heated, as the lap was completed slowly due to the red flag. Although this could have been a factor influencing the crash, we did not consider it a mitigating circumstance. Accordingly, we penalized him in accordance with the rules – with a ten-place grid penalty and four penalty points.”
