Bera: The difference between Soft and Medium is greater than calculated.
Pirelli shiners summarized the first day of the British weekend, noting that three teams, namely Aston Martin, Williams, and Haas, had already decided to work with the Hard tires on Friday, and all their drivers had already tried them on the high-speed Silverstone track.
However, most of the today’s work involved Medium tires, primarily during long run sessions, although some drivers even worked on soft tires during race pace.
Simone Berra, Pirelli’s chief engineer: "Silverstone is one of the most challenging circuits on the calendar in terms of tire performance, not only because of the high lateral loads affecting the tires in many fast corners. The wear rate here is also quite high.
We gained certain insights today during two hours of practice, especially during the second session. Primarily, this means that a one-stop strategy is possible, but it will be risky.
The speed difference between Soft and Medium tires is somewhat larger than our initial calculations suggested, and it stabilized around half a second.
Graining also manifests, especially on Soft and Medium tires, and we believe it will be the same during the race on Sunday, considering that lower temperatures are expected compared to today."
