Ferrari needs to 'pay attention' to Hamilton's counsel, according to a report.
Frederic Vasseur is "truly the right person" to remain at the helm of Ferrari. This perspective comes from newcomer Lewis Hamilton, who, despite facing challenges in adjusting to his new red car, is encouraging Ferrari to consider the future. "Those who want instant results don’t understand how F1 operates," stated La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Gianluca Gasparini following the British GP. Ferrari recently revealed a new floor for their struggling 2025 car and is organizing a 'filming' day at Mugello on July 16 in preparation for the introduction of new rear suspension at Spa-Francorchamps.
However, Hamilton will not be present at Mugello, as he is urging Ferrari to shift focus from 2025 and instead develop a car for 2026 that aligns with his own "DNA." "Ferrari, it's time to listen to Lewis Hamilton," Gasparini concurred. After a period of speculation regarding the renewal of team boss Vasseur's contract, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna made an appearance at the British GP. At Silverstone, when questioned about Vasseur, Vigna stated, "He is the team principal. It is July and we are in discussions. We just had lunch together," the Italian smiled.
It remains to be seen if Ferrari and Vigna heed Hamilton’s 40-year-old advice regarding the future of Vasseur's contract. "I believe Fred is absolutely the right person to lead us to the top," asserted the seven-time world champion. "He brought me to this team, so I owe him a great deal. I’m dedicated to supporting him and making the necessary changes, and there are quite a few to address."
Hamilton feels he has valuable insights into what works and what doesn’t at Maranello. "Upon arriving at a new team, you quickly observe the size of the organization and its structure," said the record holder of 105 Grand Prix victories. "Those who have recently joined possess a fresh perspective compared to long-standing members," Hamilton continued. "Thus, it becomes easier to identify both the positive aspects and the negatives."
Journalist Gasparini appears to support Hamilton’s cautious stance regarding the much-anticipated new rear suspension set to debut at Spa. "Believing that this will instantly elevate the red car to McLaren’s level is unrealistic," he noted. "The strategy is straightforward but demands great patience. Each technical adjustment must be aimed at next year’s car, using the latter half of the season to further integrate Hamilton into the team and to assist (Charles) Leclerc, who faced two challenging days in England."
