It became known what Horner said when saying goodbye to the team.
Today at 10:00 AM local time at the Red Bull facility in Milton Keynes, a farewell meeting was held between Christian Horner and the team staff, during which he announced the shareholders of the Austrian company’s decision to dismiss him from his position as team leader.
One of the team members recorded part of Horner’s speech and forwarded the recording to the British broadcaster Sky Sports, which aired a brief excerpt from the former Red Bull Racing chief’s speech.
“Yesterday, Red Bull informed me that after this meeting, I will no longer be involved in the operational activities of the company or the team’s future work,” says Christian Horner in the recording. “I will remain an employee of the company, but the baton in operational matters will be passed to someone else.
Of course, this was a shock for me. Over the last twelve hours, I’ve had time to reflect, and I would like to address all of you to share this news.
I just want to thank every member of the team who has given so much over the past twenty-one and a half years that I’ve been here.
When I arrived in Milton Keynes twenty years ago, without a single gray hair, I came to the team without knowing what to expect. I was immediately welcomed, and from two dilapidated buildings, we began building what became a real force in Formula 1.
Watching this team and being a part of it has been the greatest privilege of my life. Seeing the team… sorry.”
At this moment, Horner’s voice slightly trembled, and the team burst into applause.
