Stroll should say sorry for his outburst on the radio - Schumacher
"Lance Stroll is again encountering significant criticism regarding his conduct. Often referred to as a long-term 'pay driver', the son of Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll expressed a blunt message to his engineer after finishing P7 at the team's home race at Silverstone. 'Honestly, it’s the worst piece of sh*t I’ve ever driven in my life,' the 26-year-old Canadian stated over the radio.
Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher acknowledges that the criticism directed at Stroll can sometimes be unjust. 'People criticize us for being too harsh on him, and that might be valid at times, because we’ve observed that one must be capable of driving in challenging conditions, and he essentially manages that,' he told Sky Deutschland. 'It’s difficult to judge how well or poorly he is performing, especially when comparing him to Fernando Alonso, who, despite his age, continues to excel.'
However, concerning Stroll's frequently surly behaviour off the track, Schumacher is very critical. 'I must admit, that remark is quite disappointing, and frankly, it reflects poor upbringing,' said the German, whose elder brother is the Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher. 'You have to consider the external impact. The mechanics dedicate themselves day in and day out to ensure those two can race, and then the boss’s son makes such a statement.
'I have to say, that’s entirely unacceptable - a complete no-go. It’s inexcusable and indicates a lack of proper upbringing. I really don’t understand what perspective he’s viewing things from, but it’s unfortunate to undermine his own achievement in that way.
'There was a significant celebration at the Aston Martin factory - they had erected a large tent outside. These are critical points for the team, which also translate to important bonuses for the mechanics and staff. When the person responsible for the race undermines it like that, one must say, 'sit down, son, and apologize to the team.'”
