Formula E: Nick Cassidy leaves Jaguar
Nick Cassidy has two final races remaining for Jaguar Racing at the London season finale, after which he will part ways with the factory team of the British automaker.
Jaguar confirmed that the New Zealand driver will leave the team by mutual agreement after two years of collaboration. This season, Cassidy has already scored 102 points, achieved two wins, and once more stepped onto the podium, currently holding 5th place in the drivers’ standings, with 1.7 times more points than his teammate Mitch Evans.
With very favorable circumstances, Nick even has a chance to become the vice-world champion or at least climb a few positions higher. Last year, thanks in part to two victories and six podiums, Cassidy’s efforts helped Jaguar win the team championship for the first time.
The team expressed their gratitude for his maximum dedication and unwavering will to win.
James Barkley, Jaguar Racing Team Leader: “Nick’s performances show that he is a wonderful and very intelligent driver. He impressed everyone in the team with his determination to win, and I am proud of his contribution to our overall success.
On behalf of the entire team, I would like to thank Nick and wish him all the best in the future – starting, of course, with the London season finale, where we will still be battling together for points, podiums, and victories.”
Nick Cassidy: “It wasn’t easy for me to make the decision to leave Jaguar, but ultimately, it feels like the right choice for me personally. I would like to thank everyone in the team for their support since I joined the group at the beginning of last season.
Together, we achieved great success, and I am especially grateful to the engineers and mechanics who worked on my car – I have wonderful memories of our collaboration.
This weekend, we face the London finale, and as always, we will work hard to stay competitive and fight again for top-three positions in the driver’s standings at the end of the season.”
Although not officially confirmed, it is expected that Cassidy will race next season for one of Stellantis’ factory teams, either DS Penske or Maserati, although it seems this team may be renamed. There is also a possibility that Taylor Barnard, a young and talented Brit currently racing for McLaren, may move to DS Penske. Cassidy’s place at Jaguar could be taken by António Félix da Costa, although this is not certain, as the team is also in talks with Jake Hughes.
