Zandvoort refutes claims of track damage prior to the Dutch Grand Prix.

"The emergency reservoir at the racetrack was activated."

The organizers of the Dutch Grand Prix have rejected claims that heavy flooding this week caused damage to the Zandvoort Formula 1 circuit. On Monday, the town of Zandvoort experienced heavy rainfall, with water levels rising as high as 50 centimeters in some regions. Photos quickly emerged online showcasing flooded access roads and water pooling near the banked final corner, raising concerns about the circuit’s preparedness for the race planned for late August. However, circuit management has strongly denied these reports.

"Yesterday’s intense rainfall led to some misinformation about damage to the circuit," the track reported on Tuesday. "Early this morning, our team examined the entire layout. While some sand and water had collected on parts of the track, it was swiftly cleared. The surface is dry, clean, and fully ready for the race."

The statement further indicated that F1 Academy sessions have proceeded smoothly. "In fact, since this morning, the F1 Academy has been on the track for their scheduled practice sessions without any problems. All sessions are occurring precisely as planned. We look forward to seeing you at the circuit!"

Earlier reports from Dutch media and the German outlet TZ claimed that the municipality had deliberately opened an emergency reservoir at the circuit to mitigate flooding in the city center. A local representative explained: "The water reservoir in the center is full. Therefore, the emergency reservoir at the racetrack was opened to take in additional water."

Though the gravel bed at the final corner was reportedly impacted, the circuit asserts that the effects were minimal and temporary. Zandvoort is scheduled to host the Dutch GP at the end of August, with the venue expected to be removed from the calendar after 2026.
