Hulkenberg: I was happy to share the success with the team

At the FIA press conference in Spa, Nico Hülkenberg was obviously questioned primarily about his recent achievement: at Silverstone, the German Sauber driver finished on the podium for the first time in his career, despite this being his 239th Grand Prix.

Nico Hülkenberg: "It's great that there was a break between races after the British weekend, and I had time to truly enjoy the moment. Everything turned out well in this regard. Of course, the race went wonderfully, and despite difficult conditions, we made the right decisions and were rewarded for all the efforts, especially since I started from the last position, so it was a completely crazy story.

What happened afterward also made me very happy – I’m talking about the overall reaction, as I received over seven hundred messages, which I had to deal with over an entire week. Of course, that was also fantastic! Additionally, I was pleased to share the success with the team: it was important to return to the base and celebrate this proud moment together. Memories of it will stay with me forever, and I hope all this will give the team extra energy in the second half of the season.

Of course, recently we’ve gained good momentum, although Silverstone was a separate story because that race was accompanied by special circumstances. If it had taken place on a dry track, the result would have been completely different, and that’s also worth remembering.

However, since Barcelona, we’ve improved, made a big step forward in working with the car, especially on long stint laps, and on Sundays, we’re capable of showing a good race pace even if we start from far back.

Although the Silverstone podium was the best news so far this season, it’s clear that there is still a lot of work ahead, as the midfield teams are in very fierce competition...

I think, if not all but most of these teams, can genuinely contend for 5th place in the Constructors’ Championship, although results always somewhat depend on the specifics of each track. The second half of the season is ahead, and I believe the battle for a spot in the top five of the team standings will continue until the last race.
