Max Verstappen: Life is unpredictable

Max Verstappen: Life is unpredictable

At Spa, Max Verstappen was in the spotlight, as the press for the first time had the opportunity to hear his comments about the personnel changes at Red Bull Racing.

Max Verstappen: "About Christian Horner stepping down as team principal, I probably found out about it half a day before. I was informed by representatives of the company's senior management, but life must go on.

This happened during the break between races, and of course, many events were happening within the team, but I already had plans to spend about a week resting. It was also useful to analyze the first half of the season, but now we are returning to work, and at Spa, we will try to perform better.

These events don't particularly affect my work. In the end, the team made this decision, but we have to move forward because there are many tasks ahead of us, and hopefully, we will just continue this work.

Although we are all professionals, when someone like Christian, who worked in the team for so long, leaves, the initial reaction to such news is some bewilderment: "What’s happening?" But at the same time, everyone should look ahead and strive to show good results on the track.

Of course, after that, I spoke with Christian, including a call today. In this regard, our relationship hasn't changed, as we have been through a lot together, and I consider the team my second family. Naturally, Christian is part of this circle. There are many things I am incredibly grateful to him for, but there comes a moment when someone part ways with the team. It happens — it could be Christian, or it could be me. No one stays in this sport forever.

Of course, it may have all happened at a moment when no one expected it. In any case, I am just a driver, and the decision was made by management, and my job is to continue racing. We'll see how everything unfolds, but my task, along with the engineers, is to focus on maximum car efficiency. That’s the main thing right now: we need to try to make the car as fast as possible..."

When asked about his future plans, his answer sounded more philosophical: "There is a chance that one morning you will wake up and there will be no races. Life is unpredictable, but overall I am satisfied to be racing for this team, and when I signed the contract until 2028, I expected to stay with it until the end of my career."
