Fernando Alonso: 80% of us are already mentally in 2026

Aston Martin engineers have prepared technical updates for the Belgian Grand Prix. At the FIA press conference, Fernando Alonso said that their evaluation would become the team's priority this weekend.

Fernando Alonso: "After we introduced the updates in Imola, we became somewhat more competitive and are now able to fight almost every weekend for a place in the qualifying final and for points. I hope that thanks to the updates the team brought to Spa, we will maintain our momentum.

On Friday, the main task will be to understand the features of the updates, which is quite difficult to do during a sprint weekend since we have only one practice session. Let’s see if the weather will favor this work.

So, the first goal for the weekend is to evaluate the updates, and then earn points if possible. But the main priority is still to understand the updates."

Answering a question about Aston Martin's prospects in the second half of the season, Fernando said: "You see, 80% of us are already mentally in 2026. I’m not just talking about the engineers but also the drivers. We all, except for the McLaren drivers, are already thinking and dreaming about 2026, which could be a good year. As for the second half of 2025, I don’t expect any major changes.

It’s interesting how tight the battle is in the middle of the pack right now. Perhaps, in the second half of the season, there will be some reshuffling, as the fight is for fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth places in the Constructors’ Championship. But as for everything else, I don’t expect any significant changes.

We will continue to learn, strive to improve, and earn points every race weekend. And we will try to enjoy the fight."
