Piastri: Turns out, starting second isn't so bad!

Oscar Piastri won the Belgian Grand Prix, securing his sixth victory of the season and increasing his lead over his teammate in the championship standings. At the same time, the McLaren drivers delivered another double victory for their team.

Oscar Piastri (1st): "It was a lot of fun! I knew my best chance to win was on the first lap, and I exited Turn 1 well, then eased off the gas slightly at the Eau Rouge exit, after which we managed the rest of the race excellently.

However, towards the end of the race, there were some difficulties. Perhaps the Medium tires were no longer in the best condition in the final laps, but overall, we kept the situation under control.

I was very disappointed with myself after yesterday's events, but it turned out that starting from second position wasn't as bad as I thought. Honestly, I was somewhat let down by my start from the line, as I thought it had cost me some chances. But when I exited Turn 1 well, I was able to stay close behind Lando, knowing I would ease off the gas a bit more at Eau Rouge than he did, trying to stay on the track.

Indeed, at the top of the hill, the car was a little unstable, but I managed to stay behind my teammate, then slipstream helped me overtake him.

Additionally, as the track dried out, I thought Lando would switch to hard tires, but I believed it was better for me to choose Medium tires, since you couldn't rule out the possibility of an accident and the safety car coming out. Medium tires perform better on the restart, and they did well in yesterday's sprint too.

Ahead is the race in Budapest, where I achieved my first victory exactly a year ago, so I have fond memories of the Hungarian track. I like this circuit and hope we can also succeed there."

Lando Norris (2nd): "Oscar just managed a good start; there's not much more to say. At Eau Rouge, he was a bit more aggressive, then used the slipstream and was able to accelerate well on the straight. But I can't really complain.

He performed better than me at the start of the race, that's all. After that, I couldn't do much. Of course, I would have liked to stand on the podium, but today the victory belonged to Oscar.

Could I have overtaken him if I hadn't made mistakes in the final part of the race? That's all speculation. I'm sure he also made a few errors, but if he had run a perfect race, I definitely wouldn't have won. I will analyze my own performance, but I’m happy for the team—it's another victory double. I believe it’s the first at Spa in many years. A well-deserved result for McLaren and Oscar.

I'm a bit disappointed, but of course, I'm already looking forward to the next race weekend."
