Sainz: Williams 'not performing at F1 standard'
"Carlos Sainz is displaying increasing frustration at Williams, where ongoing issues and a lack of advancements in 2025 have caused the Spaniard to openly question the team's level of performance. 'We’re not performing at the standard we should be in Formula 1,' Sainz remarked to DAZN at Spa, following yet another troublesome weekend. Since joining Williams after his departure from Ferrari, Sainz has seldom experienced a weekend free of difficulties. While team principal James Vowles is working towards a reset in 2026, Sainz is evidently dissatisfied with the continual setbacks. 'More than reliability, these are minor issues, small mistakes that we all occasionally make,' he explained. 'Sometimes it's one of us,' he mentioned, referring to his teammate Alex Albon, 'other times it’s someone else.' He characterized many of the issues as 'silly' and suggested that other teams are simply performing at a superior level. 'We notice that the others encounter far fewer problems. They are genuinely just minor issues that we need to improve upon as a team, and we will,' Sainz stated. 'However, we recognize that when unusual situations don’t occur, we are competitive, and we must continue to strive.' Despite the ongoing challenges, Sainz still perceives signs of promise. 'There have consistently been positive feelings about the car. We know we have the speed, and when things go wrong for us, we’re quick.' He continued, 'It’s always crucial. Clearly, we are motivated by results, and results are all that matter. But what I’ve observed this year is that I’m not lacking speed; I just need the issues to stop happening to us.'"
