Charles Leclerc: I'm glad I kept third place.
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc successfully held off Max Verstappen during the race in Belgium and stepped onto the podium for the fifth time this season. Lewis Hamilton finished seventh, gaining eleven positions from his starting position. According to fan voting, the seven-time world champion was named "Driver of the Day."
Charles Leclerc (3rd): "Max was consistently within two seconds behind me throughout the race, so it wasn't easy. I knew that the first lap would be the toughest because we lacked the downforce that McLaren or Max had.
Fortunately, the track started drying fairly quickly, and after that, I had good pace. But Max was behind me for the entire race, and I’m glad I managed to hold onto third place.
The pressure was intense, especially in these conditions. At one point, I even told my engineer Brian not to bother me! He was just trying to give me more information, but sometimes I simply didn't need it."
Lewis Hamilton (7th): "I love races where there's a serious challenge ahead and difficult moments to overcome. It reminds me of my early years in racing when I didn’t have the best kart and regularly started from the back. The current situation is very similar to those times, partly thanks to the team's teamwork.
Of course, I'm disappointed with how this weekend went. I want to forget it, but at least I finished in the points, and we scored more than Mercedes.
We need to analyze everything, but many factors affected our performance on Friday and Saturday. In the end, I managed to make some progress today, and I’m very grateful to the team for that.
I’ll try to come back stronger next week. Now I know the car much better, and all the changes we made give me more confidence."
