Drivers are not the primary focus for Cadillac, according to Schumacher.

As Formula 1’s August break unfolds, one of the few notable developments is that Cadillac has seemingly chosen Sergio Perez as one of its race drivers for 2026, with an announcement expected soon after the summer hiatus. The new American team has also been closely associated with Valtteri Bottas, even though it has repeatedly suggested a desire to combine an experienced driver with a younger one. Felipe Drugovich is still in contention, while Mick Schumacher now seems less likely to join.

Ralf Schumacher, a six-time grand prix winner and Mick's uncle, shared with Bild newspaper: "The drivers are the least of their concerns. They only have 400 personnel and must establish an entire team. It’s extremely ambitious. I’m eager to see it, but it will be a sporting challenge. Will they rise like a phoenix from the ashes or remain grounded?"

Another discussion during this summer break revolves around the tightening title race at McLaren between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Ralf remarked, "I would have considered Lando the more complete driver previously, but Oscar has addressed his weaknesses from last year. He was too tough on the tires and struggled to maintain race pace. Now he possesses strong nerves and is quick. I see them both as equals. One retirement or mistake could determine the World Championship. However, I do worry that Oscar might take too many risks when he sees the title within reach, which could backfire."

Schumacher also supported the idea of Christian Horner—who has long been urged to resign from Red Bull—making a comeback at Alpine. "I believe the time for figures like Flavio (Briatore) is over. Technically skilled individuals are needed at the top, someone like Horner," the German stated. "Flavio could then serve as an organizer and networker—representing the team to the outside world."

Mick Schumacher’s ongoing quest for a Formula 1 return now seems to rely on a possible reserve role with Cadillac rather than a full-time position for 2026. The 26-year-old, son of Michael Schumacher, has expressed that "Formula 1 is my absolute priority—this dream continues, and if an opportunity arises, I will certainly seize it." However, with stronger connections to Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Perez, and Felipe Drugovich for the new American team’s opening lineup, Auto Motor und Sport reports that the former Haas driver’s most feasible chance could be as Cadillac’s F1 test and reserve driver.

Graeme Lowdon, the Cadillac team principal, confirmed that Schumacher is "on the list" and expressed his admiration, yet he emphasized that the team will not serve to assist drivers who still have something to prove. Presently competing for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship, Schumacher might also take over from Jenson Button at Cadillac’s Jota-run Hypercar team next year—a move that Auto Motor und Sport suggests could enhance his credibility within General Motors and maintain his relevance in F1 discussions. For Alpine, losing Schumacher would be detrimental, as he and teammate Charles Milesi have played pivotal roles in the French manufacturer's WEC efforts.

Meanwhile, speculation continues regarding Christian Horner’s next steps following his departure from Red Bull, with Auto Motor und Sport claiming that newcomer Cadillac is "a potential target" for him. However, such a move could raise concerns given rumors that the female staffer at the center of Horner’s personal scandal is reportedly now employed at Cadillac.
